Academy Students Told Good Jobs Are Waiting

Students at the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy in Danville heard lots of advice Friday on preparing for a career.  John Dene, Warehouse Supervisor for the Cooler-Freezer Department at the McLane Distribution Center, told the students there are good jobs available…

And Dene says some of those semi truck drivers are now earning more than $120-thousand dollars a year.

Dene added at least 50-percent of the management team at McLane ‘’started on the floor and worked their way up.’’   He told the students to remember when they are applying for a job to not show up wearing their pajamas.  And he added they should always have a goal.

McLane is one of Danville’s largest employers with 770 people currently working there.  And the company is now hiring.  Those seeking a job there need to apply online.

Others who participated in ‘Career Day’ at the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy included representatives from banking, Danville School District 118, the Lakeview College of Nursing, Carle, Danville Fire and Police Departments, Carstar Sterling Collision, Vermilion County Coroner and others.

Also, a reminder for people looking for a job….the Career Connections Jobs Fair is set for Wednesday, April 17th, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Danville Area Community College Mary Miller Gymnasium.  The public is invited to meet area employers who are recruiting for full and part-time positions.  Last year more than 50 employers with job openings attended the event.
