The Illinois Broadcasters Association has announced the finalists for this year’s Silver Dome Excellence in Broadcasting Awards. Staff members from the Neuhoff Media radio stations in Danville are nominated for several awards. Winners will be announced at the IBA’s Annual Meeting later this summer.
Nine nominations were announced for personnel from WDNL, WDAN and WRHK (K-Rock) Radio in Danville including:
- Best Light Feature: ‘A Hot Air Surprise’ – a story by Bill Pickett about a class at Judith Giacoma Elementary School in Westville that was picked to be the Ambassadors for Balloons Over Vermilion.
- Best Radio Series or Documentary – ‘MLK March’ – Bill Pickett’s coverage of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March in Danville.
- Best Radio Series or Documentary – ‘March Forth Moments’ – with credits to Mike Hulvey, Michelle Campbell and Tom Barnes,
** Note: Since there are only 2 statewide nominations for Best Series or Documentary, Neuhoff Media is a guaranteed winner of the award.
- Best Hard News Story – ‘Searching for Peace’ – a story by Bill Pickett about efforts to end the violence in Danville.
- Best Radio Public Service Announcement for Local Charity/Cause- ‘Mental Health’ – Vermilion County Mental Health 708 Board with credit to Linda Bolton.
- Best Radio Public Service Announcement for Local Charity/Cause- ‘Project Ignition – Drive Safe to Arrive’ – A PSA campaign with credits to Tom Barnes, Lori Woods and Maggie Brown.
- Best Sportscaster – Eric Loy of WDAN
- Best Radio Personality – ‘Tommy B’s Big Show’ on WDNL with Tom Barnes
- Best Radio Local Broadcast Team – Tommy & Maggie in the Morning with credits to Tom Barnes and Maggie Brown
Being nominated for one of the Silver Dome Awards means the entries are among the top three in statewide awards in the Small Market Radio category. The winners will be announced June 13th at the IBA’s Annual Meeting in Springfield.
