A Danville alderman has filed paperwork seeking a discovery recount in his race in the April 2nd Municipal Election. Ward 6 Alderman Jon Cooper lost to challenger Aaron Troglia by 7 votes. Unofficial results on election night showed the margin to be 8 votes, but Danville Election Commission Executive Director Sandra Delhaye says Cooper gained one vote when mail-in ballots were counted.
Delhaye adds Cooper can only pick one precinct for the discovery recount, so he has selected Precinct 1. Those votes are cast at Danville American Legion Post 210. Delhaye says once a date is set for the discovery recount only the votes from that one precinct will be reviewed. If Cooper closes the 7 vote gap Delhaye says it will be up to him to decide whether he wants to petition the court seeking a further recount.
The Danville Commission Executive Director adds she stands behind the equipment that was used for the election but added – ‘’you never know.’’
