Swearing-in ceremonies are set Tuesday evening for Danville’s Mayor and City Council members who won seats in last month’s election. But in Ward 6, the outcome of the election is still being challenged. Alderman Jon Cooper filed for a discovery recount after losing to Aaron Troglia by a mere 7 votes. The Danville Board of Election Commissioners has scheduled a hearing on Cooper’s request for Thursday, May 9th.
Troglia will be sworn-in during Tuesday evening’s meeting, though, as the new Alderman for Ward 6. Others who will be taking their oaths during Tuesday’s meeting include:
- Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr.
- Treasurer Stephanie Wilson
- Ward 1 Alderwoman Brenda Brown
- Ward 2 Alderman Rick Strebing
- Ward 3 Alderwoman Sharon Pickering
- Ward 4 Alderman Wm. Michael O’Kane
- Ward 5 Alderman Thomas Stone
- Ward 7 Alderman Bob Iverson
Only half of the City Council seats were up for grabs in last month’s election. Also Tuesday a vacancy is expected to be declared in Ward 1. It is the seat that was previously held by Mayor Williams.
Also Tuesday, Interim Public Works Director Carl Carpenter will become the City’s Public Works Director. He will no longer be the Interim Director.
