Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has signed a new gaming bill that could bring a casino to Terre Haute. Spectacle Entertainment would be able to move one of the licenses it recently purchased in the Gary, Indiana area. Spectacle would have to compete with other casino operators for the right to place a casino in Terre Haute.
The bill signed Thursday by Governor Holcomb also legalizes mobile sports wagering. ‘’Gaming is a highly regulated industry that once had little competition, but now does from surrounding states and new technology,’’ said the Governor. ‘’By modernizing our laws, this legislation will spur positive economic growth for our state and for an industry that employs over 11,000 Hoosiers,’’ said Holcomb. ‘’Additionally it will bring in new revenue and create hundreds of new jobs – both permanent and construction.’’
The Indiana Governor said he will direct the Indiana Gaming Commission to monitor for potential effects of the bill so that necessary changes can be made in future legislative sessions.
Illinois lawmakers are still considering legislation that would expand gambling in this state. They have been debating such legislation for years and now some people believe they have waited too long for Danville to get a casino. But the legislation being considered would allow for more Illinois casinos – including one in Danville.
