Members of a Champaign Unit 4 crisis team will be on hand today (Monday, May 13, 2019) to provide support for students and staff at the Franklin STEAM Academy following the death of a student. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says 14-year-old Elijha James Booker died at Carle Foundation Hospital at 2:07 a.m. Saturday from a gunshot wound. He says the teen received the wound while visiting a residence in the 1600 block of Hedge Road.
Booker was an eighth-grader at the Franklin STEAM Academy.
Champaign Police say they learned that a 17-year-old was also shot at the same home where Booker was fatally wounded. The 17-year-old was released following treatment at a hospital.
Champaign Police are continuing to investigate both shootings.
