A Vermilion County Circuit Court jury has convicted a man in connection with a vehicular hijacking two years ago. Jurors found Shaun Briggs guilty of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, which is a Class 4 felony punishable by 1 to 3 years in prison. A defendant could also be sentenced to probation.
On February 15, 2017 Briggs and a co-conspirator held the female victim at gunpoint on the Casey’s parking lot at Bowman and Voorhees in Danville. The suspects then stole the victim vehicle before leading Danville Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high speed chase. Speeds during the chase reached over 140 miles per hour before Briggs finally surrendered east of Rossville.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says Briggs DNA was found in the stolen vehicle.
‘’We will continue to zealously prosecute criminals in our community to hold violent criminals accountable and to keep the citizens of our community safe,’’ added Lacy.
