Law enforcement officers from across Vermilion County paused Thursday to honor some officers who were killed years ago in the line of duty. This is National Police Week.
Thursday’s service at Sunset Memorial Park honored Danville Police Patrolman David Farnsworth, who was beaten to death while making a routine traffic stop in January of 1976….Danville Police Officer August Lind, who died April 10, 1908 after being shot when he interrupted a burglary….and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Sergeant Myron Deckard, who was killed June 6th, 2001 when attacked by a prisoner he was transporting.
Thursday’s service included remarks by Danville Mayor Rickey Williams and honor units from both the Danville Police Department and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department.
