They didn’t last long, but storms which swept through Vermilion County Thursday afternoon have left behind some expensive damage. It includes hail damage to about 300 vehicles at Toyota of Danville along Illinois route one in Tilton where damages will run into the millions of dollars.
Beninato described the damage….
Despite the heavy damage at Toyota of Danville there was very little damage at Vermilion Chevrolet. The Chevrolet dealership is located on the other side of route one, just down the street from Toyota.
And at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center the heavy rain flooded the ramp area leading into the hospital’s Emergency Department. Kodi Smith, Community Relations Coordinator for OSF HealthCare, says patients were taken to a different location in the hospital, and no patient care has been interrupted. Smith said the water was receding and clean-up efforts have begun. And Smith added patients are not being transferred out and hospital officials do not believe that will be necessary.
Emergency Department patients are being told they should check in at the north entrance along Logan Avenue…just north of the normal Emergency Department entrance…until further notice.
The storms left damage to not only the windows of vehicles, but the vehicles, too. The hail also damaged homes and some plants…stripping some trees of their leaves.
The storms also drenched some area fields where farmers have already been running behind trying to get this year’s crops in the ground.
