Downtown Danville, Incorporated is getting ready to kick-off its Summer Sounds Concert Series at Temple Plaza on Friday (May 24th). The Series will feature free music in downtown Danville for 14 straight weeks (skipping July 12th for Balloons Over Vermilion). All concerts are free and run from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
Portal Entertainment Group, which consists of four individuals with deep ties to the Central Illinois music scene, has been selected as associate producers. Portal co-founder Jeff Markland says they are excited ‘’to once again be a part of this fantastic series. We are equally excited to bring back all four sponsors, especially OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center,’’ said Markland.
DDI board president Amy McKinley is excited that Downtown Danville, Incorporated has managed to provide free concerts in the downtown area for the past 21 years.
This year’s schedule of free concerts at Temple Plaza include:

- June 14th – Mojo: a Tribute to Tom Petty, with special guests, No Secret
- June 21st – Big Guns
- June 28th – Art Beat Music Week (in partnership with the David S. Palmer Arena, with artists to be announced separately)
- July 5th – House of Cards
- July 19th – Killer Bee Honey
- July 26th – Cobalt
- August 2nd – Boss Hogg & The Good Ol’ Boys
- August 9th – Tons O’ Fun Band
- August 16th – One Foot In
- August 23rd – Kilborne Alley Blues Band
The Summer Sounds concerts occur at Downtown Danville’s Temple Plaza at the corner of Vermilion and North Streets. It is a free show with free parking. Food and beer vendors will be on hand. Proceeds from event sales go to benefit Danville area charities.
No outside alcohol will be allowed to be brought into the area. However the new event district in Downtown Danville allows open carry at downtown special events. The single-serving drinks must be purchased from downtown establishments in the area.
