New numbers from the Illinois Department of Employment Security contain good news across East Central Illinois. Unemployment numbers throughout our region fell last month (during April).
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate fell one-percent to 5.3 percent. The April jobless rate for Danville was 5.7 percent – down from 6.4 the previous month.
Other area counties also saw improvement. In Champaign County the April jobless rate of 4.1 percent compares to 4.7 in March. Edgar County saw its unemployment rate drop to 4.2 percent during April – down from 5.5 in March. And in Iroquois County’s jobless rate dropped from 5.5 to 4.4 percent.
In Vermilion County the Government and Retail Trade categories each added 200 jobs compared to year ago numbers. The Wholesale Trade and Manufacturing categories each showed 100 more people working compared to April of 2018. But there was a decline of 100 jobs reported in the Leisure and Hospitality category in Vermilion County compared to this time last year.
The numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
