State Senator Scott Bennett and Representative Mike Marron say they appreciate the feedback from constituents regarding the recently concluded legislative session. Both were guests on WDAN Radio’s News Makers Program Tuesday (July 2, 2019).
Representative Marron says new ‘lock box’ rules are guaranteeing where new revenues from the higher gas tax will go….
”This money has to be used for transportation infrastructure, and there’s a transparent, traceable way to track that money and how it’s collected and how it’s spent,” said Representative Marron. ”And so, I think that’s the key here,” he added. ”I mean with the lack of trust you have to implement the system where we can guarantee that these dollars will be used appropriately – and I am confident that they will.”
Senator Bennett notes there are heavy traffic loads on Illinois highways because the state sits at a crossroad….
”The downside of that, of course, is just how much of a pounding our major roads get. And, of course, downstate we have heavy agricultural vehicles that are on the roads as well,” said Senator Bennett. ”And so the combination makes it all the more vital that we take care of our infrastructure and our roads, and unfortunately that hasn’t happened in a long time,” added Bennett.
Although the new tax rate on gasoline was expected to add 19-cents to a gallon of gasoline, the price at the pump at many Vermilion County stations jumped by 31-cents a gallon.
Senator Bennett and Representative Marron also discussed other issues on the program. You can listen to the entire show, if you would like, by visiting the homepage of VermilionCountyFirst.com.
