Owners of some Danville liquor establishments are urging the city council to reject a proposed change regarding their license. A proposal that was to be considered at Tuesday night’s city council meeting said that for any liquor establishment allowing video gaming, the revenue generated from video gaming shall not exceed 49-percent of the license holders gross revenue.
Owners of some local bars cautioned that if that change is approved, it will force the closure of their bar and others. They said that is because they make more of their gross revenue from video gaming than from alcohol and food.
Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said he did not realize that some bars are making more from video gaming than liquor sales. The council decided to send the proposal back to committee for further review. The administration was proposing the change to help prevent gaming cafes from locating in the city.
