Members of the Vermilion County Board are scheduled to hear a legislative update from Senator Scott Bennett during their meeting Tuesday evening (July 9th). And the Board is also expected to vote on proposed guidelines regarding the naming of county-owned buildings.
The guidelines would require at least 500 signatures of Vermilion County residents who are 18 and older. They would have to support the naming of the public building – or portion thereof, or a road, bridge or other public property.
The person whose name is being recommended for the public building ‘’must have a record of demonstrable achievements dedicated for the public good, be of good character, have devoted at least twenty years of public service to the community or have performed such heroic or memorable acts in defense of others or their country – such that their name on a public building will add meaning to others in our community and be of long-lasting significance to the community.’’
It would take a two-thirds vote of the Vermilion County Board to approve the naming of a building if the policy is adopted.
The County Board meets at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion Street in Danville.
