Last minute preparations were being completed today (Thursday, July 11th, 2019) in advance of Balloons Over Vermilion. Over 300 volunteers have been pitching in to help Danville Public Works employees and workers from the Vermilion Regional Airport prepare for the event.

Several large tents have been placed on the grounds. Other preparations have included everything from bringing in portable lighting and restroom facilities to staging food vendors.
This is the fourth year of the hot air ballooning event. A Parade of Pilots is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Friday, (July 12th). During the opening ceremony there will be activities honoring the late Julius Hegeler. The Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation is the title sponsor of Balloons Over Vermilion. Other sponsors also help make the event possible.
