The Vermilion County Board has approved guidelines for naming county-owned buildings and other property. Board Chairman Larry Baughn says anyone wanting to re-name something must first gather names on a petition…
”It must have 500 signatures from residents of Vermilion County of voting age in support of such action,” said Baughn. ”And the signatures must be accompanied by the person’s address, date of birth, and their printed name. And, again, it’s not just for buildings but it’s for any public property that’s owned by the County. Whether it be this Administration Building, or the Animal Regulation Building, or perhaps a county-owned bridge or a county-owned road. And this policy will just kind of wrap that all up into one for naming rights.”
There has been some discussion about possibly naming the Vermilion County Administration Building after a former Speaker of the House who was from Danville, Joseph ‘Uncle Joe’ Cannon….
”We all know a little bit of history about this building. Uncle Joe is the reason it’s even standing here. His home was just a few steps away, so that had been brought up.”
Baughn was commenting at last night’s (July 9, 2019) meeting of the Vermilion County Board.
