Danville Officer Charged in Domestic Case

A five year veteran of the Danville Police Department has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested in a domestic complaint.  Brian Cornett was charged with domestic battery and assault after police were called to a reported civil dispute Thursday outside American Legion Post 210 in the 200 block of Prospect Place.

Danville Police Commander Joshua Webb says when officers learned the disturbance involved a fellow officer they requested Illinois State Police respond there to avoid any conflict-of-interest concerns.

It was State Police who arrested Cornett after gathering information at the scene.  In court Friday Cornett’s bond was placed at $3,000.   There were no injuries reported during the incident on Thursday.  Cornett was placed on a paid administrative leave per the Danville Police Department’s policy pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

The public is reminded that people who are charged are presumed to be innocent unless they are proven guilty in a court of law.
