The selection of Tracy Cherry to become the new principal of Danville High School was not the only administrative appointment during last night’s school board meeting. Mitzi Campbell, who has been serving as Assistant Principal of the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy was elevated to become the new principal there. Campbell had also served as Assistant Principal of South View Upper Elementary and Danville High Schools.
And Nicole Zaayer has been selected to become Assistant Principal at the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy. She currently serves as an Administrative Intern there.
The school board also agreed to post a job opening for a new Assistant Principal at Danville High School. Board members hope to fill that position quickly.
Also during the meeting, Danville School Board members paused to remember two strong supporters of the schools who died in the past week. Ed Butler, President of the Danville Branch of the NAACP, said Nate Bobo Smalls, was a supporter of all kids in the community. And Bob Richard, head of the District 118 School Foundation, said Julius Hegeler’s bequests will ensure the district will see benefits for years to come. ‘’They were really good for our community and our schools,’’ said District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis.
