Catlin American Legion Damaged During Burglary

>>>>THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED AND THE LEGION WILL RE-OPEN ON JULY 18, 2019.  SEE OUR UPDATED STORY.<<<<<

The Catlin American Legion Post will remain closed temporarily as damage is repaired from a burglary.  It was discovered early Sunday (July 14, 2019) that the building had been forcibly entered and heavily ransacked.  The American Legion told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that the only thing that was initially known to be missing is money.  The amount was not disclosed.

Burglars also struck High On The Hog, a barbeque restaurant located across the street from the Catlin American Legion. Catlin Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police were on the scene Sunday morning investigating the break-ins.

The operators of High On The Hog say it’s disappointing that someone would burglarize their business since they have given back a lot to the community. But Doug and Robin Carter add what is even more disturbing is that they burglarized the American Legion.  They say some of the meat that was apparently stolen from their restaurant was found inside the legion.

At the legion the intruders left damage both upstairs and down.  And a small statue outside had been moved and the screen from a broken window above it was placed under the statue.

Anyone who has information that might help solve these burglaries is asked to call Catlin Police or the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department.
