The Danville City Council has approved final plans for some safety improvements at a railroad crossing where a teenager died two years ago. The agreement between the City and CSX Transportation will include the installation of new crossing gates for both the road and sidewalks along North Griffin Street.
The crossing near Garfield Park is where a 13-year-old Danville boy was struck and killed while riding his bike across the tracks in June of 2017.
Danville Public Works Director Carl Carpenter says the improvements are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Carpenter noted there is still pending legal action in connection with the tragedy two years ago.
