Danville Police say they are continuing their probe of a Friday night shooting in which a 34-year-old city man was shot in the leg. The victim told police he was in the area of Commercial and Buchanan Streets around 11:30 p.m. Friday (July 19, 2019) when he got into an argument with another man. During the argument the victim says a black SUV pulled up and a third man got out of the vehicle armed with a handgun.
The victim says the third man originally joined the argument, but then the suspect shot him in the leg. The wound was described as non-life threatening. No arrests have been made in the shooting. It was just one of several calls which kept police busy over the weekend, despite the very hot weather.
In another incident a 28-year-old Westville man who was driving a cab for Mr. Taxi was robbed late Friday night. The robbery occurred in the 1700 block of Glenwood Street. The victim told police he had arrived in the area to pick up a fare when two male subjects wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts approached him. One of the subjects was armed with a handgun and demanded the victim’s money, according to police. The victim was robbed of his wallet, cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects fled from the area on foot.
There were no injuries reported in the armed robbery of the cab driver. Police say there is nothing to indicate the incidents are related.
