New numbers are out showing unemployment rose last month across much of East Central Illinois. Vermilion County’s jobless rate rose from 4.5 percent in May to 4.7 in June. In Danville the unemployment rate rose from 4.8 percent in May to 5.3 percent last month.
Although Vermilion County’s June unemployment rate rose to 4.7 percent, it is much lower than a year ago when it was 6.4 percent.
In Champaign County the unemployment level climbed from 3.5 percent to 3.8 in June. Edgar County’s jobless rate rose a half-percent to 3.8 last month. In Iroquois County the June rate of 3.4 percent was unchanged from May.
In Vermilion County job gains were reported in the Government, Professional & Business Services, Financial Services, and Retail Trade categories each recorded a gain of 100 jobs since this time a year ago. The Manufacturing category showed a loss of 100 jobs since May of last year in Vermilion County. The new numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
