Danville Police responded to eleven calls of shots fired over the weekend, according to logs at the Public Safety Building. There was no immediate word on whether anybody was hit by the bullets. Also, although the calls come in as reports of ”shots fired” they are not always actual gunshots.
The first reckless discharge of a firearm report was made to police shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday. It came from the 500 block of Orchard Street. Police were also called to reckless discharge of firearm calls at the following locations:
- 2 East Main Street at 8:30 Friday night (July 27th, 2019).
- The 1300 block of May Street shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
- Another call to the 1300 block of May Street shortly after 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
- A call to the 1400 block of May Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
- A call to the 500 block of Plum Street shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
- A call in the 300 block of North Alexander Street shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.
- A call to the 2800 block of Townway for the aggravated discharge of a firearm at 4:00 a.m. Sunday.
- A call to the 1200 block of James Street for a reckless discharge of a firearm report at 3:45 Sunday morning.
- A call of shots fired in the 2800 block of Townway at 7:00 a.m. Sunday.
- An aggravated discharge of firearms call in the 1200 block of Clarence Street in Danville at 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
- An aggravated battery with a firearm call in the 500 block of Plum Street shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
In addition to these calls, Danville Police arrested two suspects Sunday evening on home invasion charges. Police are also investigating a burglary with criminal damage to property at Simplicity Salon at 202 West North Street. The break-in was discovered early Saturday – July 27th (2019).
Danville Police are also probing a burglary that was discovered on Friday at the Habitat for Humanity building at 422 North Vermilion Street, and a home invasion, robbery and aggravated battery report which occurred in the 400 block of Avenue E Friday afternoon.
And these are just some of the more serious calls which have been keeping police busy. Officers have also responded to numerous other calls ranging from domestic disputes to taking people into custody who are wanted on warrants.
