Volunteers A Key to Georgetown Fair

Volunteers A Key to Georgetown Fair

As this year’s Georgetown Fair gets ready to start, an army of volunteers are preparing for it.  Donnie Hackler, Georgetown Fair Association President, describes some of what’s involved….

{‘’Right now we’ve got our home-ec ladies, our home-ec superintendents are in the buildings decorating their particular areas for our home-economics projects.  Our livestock superintendents have been preparing their list of shows and classes, and so on and so forth for that,’’ said Hackler. ‘’Monday we had the FFA Section Leaders and a bunch of volunteers.  We had forty-something FFA kids in here on Monday to build the livestock pens.’’}

And that is only some of the work being done to prepare for Saturday’s opening day.  Some of the volunteers involved have donated time to the fair for decades. And Hackler says once you get involved ‘’you become a member of the fair family.’’

Although Saturday is the opening day of the Georgetown Fair, the carnival rides do not start operating until Monday.

Hackler says Monday will be a busy day….

{Monday kicks-off the full event of fair activities. We’ve got the carnival opening that night.  We’ll still have livestock shows going on that day.  We’ll have the Queen’s Pageant Monday night in front of the grandstand,’’ said Hackler during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.  ‘’Tuesday is kind-of a double-header. We’re having a barnyard tractor pull in front of the grand stand, and then we’re having our Talent Show inside the Banquet Center (on the fairgrounds).’’

In addition to the grandstand events there is also free entertainment showcased daily once you are on the fair grounds.
