The Illinois Department of Transportation is advising motorists that more work is beginning Monday, August 5th, 2019 along Interstate 74 in the Champaign-Urbana area. Pavement repairs will be taking place on Interstate 74 between High Cross Road and Prospect Avenue.
The work involves milling and resurfacing the Interstate from High Cross Road to east of Cunningham Avenue in Urbana, and micro-surfacing from Cunningham Avenue to west of Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Guardrails in that area will also be repaired.
The project is expected to last about seven weeks and will require nighttime lane closures between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times.
Motorists should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limit, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
