Members of the Kickapoo Mountain Bike Club are being honored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources with its 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award. The club is being recognized for its volunteer work at Kickapoo State Park.
The club has already provided nearly 1,000 hours of volunteer service this year at Kickapoo maintaining 14 miles of mountain bike trails, fixing eroded sections of the trail, removing trees that succumbed to emerald ash borer, and doing other work.
This year the club designed and built a new section of the trial which is approximately 3 miles long. The project turned a previously underutilized area into a first-class mountain bike trail, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The club maintains an informative webpage with details on the Kickapoo trail system that includes elevations and a photo tour.
