Summer break is coming to an end for thousands of students and teachers in our area. The opening day of school is still a week away – on Monday, August 19th, for most public schools in Vermilion County.
But Tuesday (August 13th) is the first day of the new school year for Danville District 118 Schools which operate on the traditional schedule, and Wednesday, (August 14th) is the first full day of school for students in the Georgetown – Ridge Farm District.
Danville District 118 schools will dismiss one hour earlier than normal on both Tuesday and Wednesday (August 13th and 14th). The first full day of school will be Thursday, August 15th.
Here is a rundown of opening information at some of the other area schools:
Schlarman Academy: The first day of student attendance is Friday, August 16th.
Oakwood Unit 76: The first day for students is Monday, August 19th. Opening day for staff is Thursday, August 15th, with a teacher institute day set for Friday, August 16th. Oakwood Jr. High School is hosting ‘Locker Load Day’ from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th, giving students a chance to arrange their lockers and parents and students a chance to meet staff.
Westville Unit 2: Faculty in the Westville District report Thursday, August 15th, and there is an Institute Day on Friday. Students report for their first full day on Monday, August 19th.
Georgetown – Ridge Farm Schools have Teacher Institute days both Monday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 13th. The first full day for students is Wednesday, August 14th.
Bismarck-Henning Unit District 1 Schools have a kindergarten orientation on Tuesday at 5 p.m., and an Open House for 1st through 4th graders scheduled for 7 p.m. that day. August 15th and 16th teachers report but the first day of school for all grades is Monday, August 19th.
Hoopeston Area Schools have their first day of attendance for students on Monday, August 19th. There is a ‘Meet the Teacher Night’ at Maple School in Hoopeston on Thursday, August 15th from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. Students are asked to take their school supplies with them to this event.
Salt Fork School District has staff institute days scheduled for Thursday and Friday, August 15th and 16th. Students report back for the first day of attendance on Monday, August 19th.
