State Representative Mike Marron (R-Fithian) is donating his automatic cost of living pay raise to some local causes. ‘’I am completely adamant that Illinois legislators do not deserve a pay increase until we start working together on both sides of the aisle to address our growing pension debt,’’ said Marron.
Representative Marron will give $400 to the Danville Area Community College Foundation for scholarships. One will go to a student majoring in Agriculture and the second one will go to the BoBo Smalls Memorial Scholarship for a low-income minority student to be selected by Reverend Frank McCullough and the Three Kings of Peace.
Representative Marron is donating the remaining $800 from his automatic COLA raise to the building fund of the Rantoul Veterans Wall and Parkland College Foundation for a scholarship for a Champaign County resident who has served in the military.
At the beginning of the legislative session, Representative Marron signed on as a co-sponsor of a bill to stop the automatic legislative Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs). However, House Democrats refused to allow for a vote on the legislation. Marron also called on Governor JB Pritzker to veto the planned pay raises for Illinois politicians, but the Governor declined to veto it.
