Investigation Continues Into Courthouse Violence

Illinois State Police continue their investigation into Friday’s stabbing and shooting which occurred at the Vermilion County Courthouse.  No new information has been released regarding the incident.  No official information has been released on either the condition of the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputy who was stabbed in the face, or the inmate who was shot.

Sheriff Pat Hartshorn said Friday that the deputy was in a holding area (where some cells are located on the first floor of the courthouse) when an inmate started stabbing him in the face.  The Sheriff said the deputy then pulled his weapon and shot the inmate.

Bill Cannon of Hoopeston says he was right outside the holding area when the incident occurred….

No one else was hurt.  Sheriff Hartshorn said both the deputy and the inmate were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Illinois State Police were called to handle the investigation.
