Local Lawmakers Keep Busy Over Summer Break

Although the Illinois House and Senate are not in session, State Representative Mike Marron and Senator Scott Bennett say they are keeping busy listening to concerns of their constituents.  Both say they are looking forward to getting a trailer bill approved this fall for the coal ash legislation that was signed by Governor JB Pritzker.  Marron notes that legislation is partially designed to help protect the National Scenic Middle Fork River…

{‘’You know that’s one of the amazing strengths of this part of the district – of this county.  The beautiful natural resources, ‘’ said Marron. ‘’You know we’re home to Illinois’ only National Scenic River, which is pretty impressive in and of itself.  And then the wonderful parks – Kickapoo, and Kennekuk, and Forest Glen. It’s something we can’t afford to take for granted, for sure.”}

{‘’I personally am pretty sick of us just kind of just throwing up our hands as we watch one market after another close to American farmers. So, I’ve been trying to work with the Illinois Department of Agriculture trying to find some new markets,’’ said Senator Bennett. ‘’I actually spent a week in Taiwan earlier this summer talking with their agricultural groups trying to get them to buy some Illinois soybeans.  And we’re going to be hosting a delegation.’’}

Senator Bennett says the delegation from Taiwan will be touring the area later this fall.
