A posthumous gift from the estate of Julius W. Hegeler II will fund a $2-million dollar renovation of a historic Carnegie Library building at Danville Area Community College. The building was earlier transferred to the college from the Veterans Administration Illiana Health Care System.
The building is now known as Jacobs Hall in recognition of the 17 years that Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs served as DACC’s president.
Dave Kietzmann, Executive Vice President of Danville Area Community College, says the underlying strategy is to leverage the new space to boost student enrollment in fine arts programs and to increase student participation in music and theatrical clubs.
DACC President Stephen Nacco says the space on the first floor and the gallery on the second floor need to be open and flexible so that they may be adapted to serve many different functions.
