A Danville City Council committee is recommending the full council approve a development agreement for some land in the 800 block of East Main Street. Under the agreement city Public Works employees would demolish vacant homes located at 829, 831, and 833 East Main Street. The land is directly west of a Burger King restaurant.
Mayor Rickey Williams says former mayor Scott Eisenhauer had been working on the agreement before he left office. The owner of the property would pay all of the demolition dumping fees. Nothing has been announced regarding what is planned for the site.
Ward 6 Alderman Aaron Troglia wanted to know whether the city has anything in writing regarding the site. But Mayor Williams noted the city did not have anything in writing when it was working to land Applebees and Kohls. But Alderman Mike O’Kane noted the city ‘’bit the bullet’’ on land at Fairchild and Vermilion to the tune of $300-thousand dollars. And now, a year later, that land is still sitting vacant and a one year option on that site expired at the end of May. Mayor Williams says the site is now up for grabs by any developer.
