Rep. Marron Will Not Seek Congressional Seat

State Representative Mike Marron has announced he will not pursue the 15th District Congressional seat currently held by John Shimkus.  Instead, Marron has announced he is running for re-election as State Representative from Illinois’ 104th District.

Marron had earlier announced the formation of an exploratory committee to look into possibly running for Congress.  But he says he believes he can best serve this area by staying in the Illinois House of Representatives…

{‘’My first session wasn’t easy, but I think that I made some good choices and built some relationships that are the foundation of something that we can build on, and do some more good things for the district for Vermilion and Champaign Counties,’’ said Marron. ‘’And, you know, there was a lot that went into that so, you know, I think it’s a good opportunity to build off of that and accomplish some more things before I look at taking a new step,’’} added Marron in an interview with News.  Congressman John Shimkus had earlier announced he will not seek reelection.

The Fithian Republican added that he carefully weighed whether to run for the seat in Washington….

{‘’It was a tough decision to make but I feel like we did a very thorough process and evaluation, and we decided the best decision for me – both personally and professionally – was to seek re-election to the 104th Illinois House District,’’ said Marron.}

Representative Marron says he is humbled by the comments he heard from people wanting him to run again….

{‘’If this process has done one thing – it’s made me take a hard look at where I’m at in my position in Springfield, and what I bring to the table and some of the things I think I can get done.  And it’s really kind of rejuvenated me and given me some new energy to go back to Springfield.  I see some holes down there that I feel like I can fill.  Springfield has needed some very strong leadership, and I feel like with my track record, I’m the person to do that,’’ added Marron.}

Marron added he appreciated all the phone calls, text messages and email from across the 15th Congressional District.  He says that outpouring made this an extra tough decision.
