Danville City Council members were expected to hear a presentation on the casino Tuesday night (September 17, 2019) before voting on a resolution for a casino operating partner. But instead, Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. announced that the items dealing with the casino were being pulled from the City Council’s agenda.
Mayor Williams says negotiations are still underway regarding community benefits the casino would bring. And he added the City is also still awaiting some financial documents for the casino. The Mayor added the talks which are continuing are with both of the developers who hope to bring a casino to Danville. A decision has not been made yet on which developer will be selected.
Both of the finalists in the running for the new Danville casino are proposing it be built on land located along Lynch Road, south of Interstate 74. It is estimated that when the casino opens in late 2021 that it will bring about 600 jobs with it.
