A 35-year-old Danville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder. Yuri Lillard will be required to serve 100-percent of the sentence, and must also serve three years of mandatory supervised release once he is out of prison.
Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey handed down the sentence after Lillard pleaded guilty to an amended charge of first-degree murder. Under the counts that Lillard was originally facing he could have been required to serve from 45 years to life in prison if convicted.
The 25 year sentence given by Judge Fahey is for the September, 2018 shooting death of 29-year-old Tyrell Henderson. Danville Police found the victim lying in the 2300 block of Cannon Street after they were called there on September 15, 2018 on a report of shots fired. Police were initially told there were several people in front of a house when the shots rang out.
Lillard apologized to some of the victim’s family – including Tyrell Henderson’s mother – before Judge Fahey handed down the sentence.
U.S. Marshals arrested Lillard in Colorado less than a week after the shooting.
