Three area lawmakers have been honored for their work in passing coal ash regulations into law this year. The Illinois Environmental Council has presented State Senator Scott Bennett and Representatives Mike Marron and Carol Ammons with its Milestone Achievement Award.
Senator Bennett sponsored the legislation in the Senate to ensure tougher regulations on coal ash waste. ‘’This situation effects the entire state, but really hits close to home considering the potential risk the ash pits pose to the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River,’’ said Bennett. ‘’It was tremendous what we were able to accomplish this spring on a bi-partisan basis and I will continue to fight to clean up toxic coal ash stored in unlined pits throughout the state,’’ added Senator Bennett.
Representatives Marron and Ammons carried Senate Bill 9 through the Illinois House. It is effective immediately.
