A host community agreement between the City of Danville and Haven Gaming will pump millions of dollars into some local causes once the casino opens. Mayor Rickey Williams Junior says the casino operator has agreed to pay $1-million dollars to the Boys and Girls Club in Danville to allow for an expansion….$1-million dollars to upgrade some Danville municipal buildings, and another million for redevelopment of the downtown riverfront area.
In addition, Haven Gaming is agreeing to pay $50-thousand-dollars a year to the City of Danville for Police and Fire operations and $50-thousand dollars each annually to Danville Area Community College for scholarships, Vermilion Advantage, and the Fischer Theater. The agreement also includes a formula where the City of Danville would receive 4-percent of all profits after the casino operation’s taxes are paid. If, for example, the casino makes $80-million dollars in profits after taxes are paid…the City of Danville would get $3.2 million dollars.
It is estimated the casino will generate $6-million dollars in new revenues for the City of Danville during its first year of operations. And in subsequent years the figure is expected to be around $7-million dollars annually.
