The man who has been the General Manager of the David S. Palmer Arena for nearly twenty years has accepted a new job. Peter Blackmon has been chosen to become the new Executive Director of the Danville Public Library Foundation.
Current Foundation Director Sabrina Henriques had announced earlier her plans to leave. She will be relocating to New York with her husband, Andre Henriques, DDS.
Sabrina Henriques says the Library Foundation Board voted unanimously in favor of Blackmon taking over the position. ‘’He does so much for the community, and has done a lot behind the scenes for the Library Foundation,’’ said Henriques. She says the Library Foundation is fortunate to get Blackmon to accept the job.
Blackmon has been instrumental in bringing a number of things to the Palmer Arena over the years – including hockey and the annual Festival of Trees. He has served as the General Manager there since November of 2000.
In addition to his work at the Arena, Blackmon has also helped bring entertainment to downtown Danville with concerts at Temple Plaza. And he developed the First Gig Rock and Roll Camp for Kids.
