Police in Champaign and Urbana are investigating some Saturday night (October 5, 2019) shootings which have left one person dead and three wounded.
Urbana Police say they found a man who had been shot multiple times sitting in a car after they responded to an armed subject call in the 700 block of East Colorado. The man was transported to Carle Hospital where he died. Urbana Police say a second man arrived at the hospital who was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police Investigators determined both victims were sitting in the same car at the time they were shot around 7:30 p.m.
The identity of the victim who died is being withheld pending absolute identification and notification of family members.
Urbana Police said in a news release to VermilionCountyFirst.com News that they are continuing their investigation into this incident with assistance from the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and an Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit. Champaign Police discovered a 25-year-old male who had suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound when they were called to the parking lot of a business in the 1900 block of West Bradley late Saturday night. Police rendered aid to the victim who was taken to a hospital. A short while later a second gunshot victim, a 32-year-old male, arrived at the hospital for treatment.
Champaign Police say their preliminary information indicates this incident began as a physical altercation, which culminated with both victims being shot. Their names were not released but police said their injuries were not life-threatening. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Champaign Police at 217-351-4545.
