Two classmates from the Class of 1978 are going to be inducted into Schlarman Academy’s Hall of Fame. They are Richard Pate and Dr. John Shea. The men are being honored for their accomplishments while at Schlarman, their achievements in their chosen profession, service or personal commitment to their community, and their support of Schlarman.
Pate and Dr. Shea will be inducted into the Schlarman Hall of Fame during halftime of the Hilltopper football game on Saturday, October 19, 2019.
Pate is a lead professor at Danville Area Community College who developed the first online transfer class at DACC in 1999. He has gone on to develop eight online courses for the college. Pate and Dr. Shea recently worked to expand the dual enrollment program at Schlarman.
Dr. Shea served as the Associate Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethsda, Maryland starting in 2000. He later became Assistant Clinical Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and now serves at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Center in Nashville.
Dr. Shea has made multiple mission trips to Haiti representing his parish, Our Lady of the Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee to provide services which are otherwise not available in remote rural areas of Haiti.
