(DANVILLE, IL) — Tuesday was the first day of the murder trial for 50 year old Shelley Murphy. She faces three counts of first degree murder in the death of her 61 year old wife, Daye Lynn, in July 2018. Opening testimony provided different accounts of the events. The prosecution gave a display that Shelley Murphy assaulted her wife in an argument with such force that Daye Lynn suffered head trauma and made no attempt to call for medical aid. The defense countered with the argument of Shelley Murphy defending herself in a physical altercation where both parties were intoxicated and went to sleep only to wake up to find her wife in a semi-responsive state, asking if she was okay and if she wanted her to call 911. Her wife indicated she was okay and did not need medical assistance before going back to sleep, which Shelley Murphy construed as her wife sleeping off the alcohol. Statements are expected to wrap up Thursday.
