First Presbyterian To Celebrate 190 Years This Sunday

Danville’s oldest church is about to celebrate its 190th birthday. The celebration will be Sunday October 20, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin. The day will examine the historic significance of the church and look forward to its future. The event will kick off with an Organ recital presented by Ray Wiggs, former First Presbyterian Church organist at 9 a.m. Wiggs currently serves as organist for First United Methodist Church of Champaign. Worship service will be 9:45-10:45. Following that will be fellowship, presentation of FPC historical artifacts and a blessing of two refurbished stained glass windows. There will be a congregation brunch beginning at 11:15am. During brunch there will be a presentation by Susan Biggs Warner, historical interpreter with the Vermilion County Conservation District. She will bring items from her extensive collection dating from 1890 to 1940. There also will be remarks by State Senator Scott Bennett, State Representative Mike Marron, and Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr.
