Candidates interested in running in next year’s General Primary Election will start filing their petitions later this month. Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins says the filing begins Monday, November 25th at 8:00 a.m. and will run through 5:00 p.m. Monday, December 2nd.
The County Clerk is reminding candidates they need to have all paperwork notarized prior to filing. If you papers are not notarized at the time of filing, you will be asked to step out of line to do so, and you will forfeit your desired time to file. Jenkins says her office does have notaries available from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and papers for candidates are notarized free of charge. The office will be closed on Thursday, November 28th, and Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The County Clerk’s Office will be accepting papers for a number of local offices once the filing period begins on November 25th. They include County Auditor, Circuit Clerk, Recorder, State’s Attorney, Coroner, County Board members, and Precinct Committeemen.
If you have questions about the candidate filing period, contact Lindsay Light, Chief Deputy County Clerk and Supervisor of Elections at (217)-554-1911 or ccelections@vercounty.org.
