Long-time Danville City Council member and Vice Mayor Steve Nichols has resigned those positions…effective today (November 7, 2019). Nichols told VermilionCountyFirst.com News he has completed his move to his new home located along Lake Vermilion. It is outside of Ward 6 where Nichols has represented his constituents for 26 years.
Nichols had originally said he wanted to retain his seat until a replacement is found for his city council seat. But Nichols now says that he has turned in his resignation to Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. effective today.
In addition to serving as Vice Mayor Nichols had been the chairman of the City Council’s Public Services Committee.
Nichols told our news department that he has long wanted to buy a home along Lake Vermilion. So he says when the opportunity came along recently he decided to make the move. His new home is located not only outside of Ward 6, it is also located just outside the Danville city limits.
Nichols also noted he did not try to hide the fact that he had moved. ‘’Many people already knew about it,’’ he said.
Mayor Williams told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that he plans to fill the position as soon as possible. He added that he already has someone in mind for the spot.
