Despite the cold and being pelted with sleet, scores of people turned out today (November 11, 2019) to watch Danville’s first Veterans Day Parade at the VA. The parade wound past the buildings at the VA Illiana Health Care System campus, giving Veterans a chance to watch from the comfort of their rooms.
There was hot chocolate and a local quartet on hand to sing at the VA gazebo before the parade. And police cars and fire trucks followed a Danville Police Honor Guard to lead the parade through the area.
One group that joined in the celebration honoring Veterans was members of Lincoln’s Challenge from Rantoul.
Although it was cold along the parade route, Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. noted our military has fought in all sorts of weather….
Mary Morrison-Gagnon’s late husband, Bob, served 23 years in the Marines. She was among those watching the parade Monday at the VA….
In addition to the parade at the Veterans Administration there was also a special Veteran’s Day observance at the Middle East Conflict Memorial in Danville.
