Danville District 118 School Board members placed their new proposed budget and tax levy on public display last night. The tax rate of $5.47 per $100 of equalized assessed value is the same rate as this year.
Board members also approved a budget of an estimated $24,580 for a new strategic plan. School Board member Dr. Randal Ashton said he got ‘’sticker shock’’ when he saw the cost. Of the amount, $17,500 is set-aside for a Danville High School graduate who is now a consultant living in Chicago. A small amount will also be paid to some retired teachers to help with 20 to 25 focus groups.
School Board President Bill Dobbles said several people had told him they think the amount for the consultant is low.
The board approved the $24,580 cost, but Dobbles noted they will have to limit the number of focus groups or the cost could get out of control.
