A collision involving a semi tractor trailer and an SUV along Interstate 74 in Montgomery County, Indiana has left a young Hillsboro woman dead. Indiana State Police say 26-year-old Christina Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say Mendoza was driving the SUV which became disabled along the interstate after it struck a deer. The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Kenneth Dusharm of Carmel, Indiana, told State Police he did not see the disabled vehicle and hit it in the rear. Troopers say the road was wet and there was light fog at the time of the crash shortly before 7:30 a.m. (Monday, November 18, 2019).
The truck driver escaped injury, but the crash closed both east bound lanes of the interstate were closed for over four hours. The investigation into the tragedy continues, but State Police say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.
