Danville Area Community College has scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony next week to celebrate the transfer a former U.S. Army Reserve Center to the college. The building is located at 2408 East Main Street, adjacent to the DACC campus.
The ceremony will occur Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Tours of the building will follow the ceremony.
Congressman John Shimkus will be one of the speakers. ‘’Congressman Shimkus has really been DACC’s Champion all along,’’ said Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco. ‘’He stood beside us and helped position us so that we were able to buy the property,’’ Nacco added.
The property consists of two buildings which were built in 1958, sitting on three-and-a-half acres. They include a two-story administrative/office building and a single-story garage. While final plans for the property are yet to be settled, the College plans to immediately use some of the space for Corporate Education’s Forklift Training, a practice space for some athletic programs, and storage.
‘’This couldn’t have happened without the vision of the DACC Board of Trustees, who appreciate the value of this facility to the College and remained patient over the past year,’’ said President Nacco (shown here).
Also on Monday, at the conclusion of the tour of the Reserve Center building, the group will reconvene on the second floor of Cannon Hall on campus. The gathering is to mark the official opening of the new Veterans Freedom Center, an extension of DACC’s Veterans Multipurpose Center. Located in room 202 of Cannon Hall, this lounge is open to student or staff veterans only. It offers a quiet area for studying, relaxing, and fellowship among veterans. Center management falls under Career Services and the American Job Center.
The general public is invited to both the ribbon-cutting at the former U.S. Army Reserve building and the official opening of the new Veterans Freedom Center.
