New unemployment figures are out and they show a slight improvement in both Danville and Vermilion County. The county’s jobless rate for October was 4.9 percent compared to 5.0 in September. Danville’s unemployment rate fell from 5.7 to 5.5 percent of the workforce.
The report shows non-farm employment in Vermilion County remained unchanged compared to October of last year. The county gained 200 jobs over the year in the Financial Services category but lost 100 jobs in Retail and another 100 jobs in the Education & Health Services category compared to a year ago.
The unemployment rate in Champaign County rose slightly, going from 3.5 percent in September to 3.6 in October. In Iroquois County the jobless rate improved by a tenth-of-a-percent to 3.6 percent. Edgar County’s unemployment rate held steady last month at 3.9 percent.
The numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and U.S. Department of Labor have not been seasonally adjusted.
