Danville Police say two of three people who were taken into custody Wednesday night (November 20, 2019) following a report of shots being fired from a vehicle have been released from custody. The third – 23-year-old Phouthasone Champanine of Urbana – has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. His bond has been set at $200-thousand dollars.
Danville Police say they were originally called to the area of East Main and Columbia Streets for a report of shots fired from a vehicle. The victim told police a front seat passenger had fired several shots at him from a vehicle which pulled up next to him.
According to police, the victim followed the suspect vehicle onto interstate 74. It was along the interstate that police were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle. Initially three people were taken into custody, but Danville Police Detectives say their follow-up investigation found that two of them were not active participants in the shooting, so they were released.
